Gardening and Sustainable Environment Practices

Integral to our program is our environment. We endeavour to instil an appreciation and respect for taking care of and maintaining our environment; preserving it for the future. The children are actively involved in sustainable practices such as identifying reusable, recyclable and organic materials. The children collect food scraps (organic materials) for the compost and worm farm, place recyclable materials in the recycling bins located in the rooms and reusable materials are placed in the collage box.

The children are also involved in gardening:- planting, watering, tending plants and maintaining both the flower beds and the vegetable garden. Our vegetable garden also provides our centre with the opportunity for the children to gain satisfaction of nurturing the plants through the cycle of life. The children plant, harvest and cook with the yield of their crops, composting the unused or seeded plants. Our gardening program centres on sustainable living practices that we hope the children continue throughout their lives.
